Sapphire step windows are either windows or plates ground with a
step into the edge or length of the glass. This step can allow for
rings or sealant for useful for sealing into housing or mechanical
assembly. The step windows are made from a wide range of materials
including BK7, Fused Quartz, Borosilicate and Sapphire. In fact all
materials can be engineered in this way subject to thickness.
Additional bevels can be ground to the step for assembly and
handling. Angles can also be produced to create angled cones or an
angled ground step

Sapphire material has high hardness (Moths 9), high melting point
(2050℃) and good thermal stability, with wear resistance, corrosion
resistance characteristics. And in the infrared spectrum, it has a
high transmission rate, can be used in the wavelength range of 200
nm - 450 nm.

crystal, this is known as ‘C’ cut, ‘Z’ cut or 0° plane cut
Sapphire. This material is better suited for highly optical and
mechanical applications due to random being moderately
birefringent. Extremely hard and has a good transmission from the
ultraviolet to the mid infrared ideal for optical and high
demanding mechanical applications. These windows and plates are
used in analytical, medical instruments, camera systems, optical
instruments and industrial applications.
